Sexxing bristlenose

i recently bought some baby bristlenose off a gentlemen local to me, he advised me at the time that they he had no idea on the sex of any of them at this moment in time, at what sort of age should i be able to tell? and how can i tell

When they get to about an inch/inch and a half long, it will be easier to sex them. Males develop large bristles on their faces and females have much smaller ones - sometimes the females are so small that they look a bit like stubble :wink:

(These are two different species of Ancistrus - but it gives you an idea of the bristles :) )
