Hi
what size aquarium would you guys recommend for housing a brown HOPLO catfish.I have the chance of purchasing 1 of these very cheap(99p).Would a 110l community aquarium with good filtration be too small??

From google "Hoplo catfish eventually grow to about six inches, you’ll want to sooner or later house them in a 29gallon or larger aquarium."

Obviously depending on your stock levels at the moment It should be borderline with the size of tank you have.

Lovely looking fish though

I have one in a 100 ltr tank and it seems happy enough - plenty of room to swim up and down. They are very hardy fish. The fish gets on very well with all of the Cories in the tank - he goes where he wants to, and they all just get of his way - quite amusing to watch. Just my own observations, but I always feel that it's eysight isn't good, and it relies on the tentacle things.

Hoplo settled in well now.Just 1 more question,Does your fish sometimes whizz up to the surface and take air and then return to the bottom of your aquarium?

Most of the catfish I have kept have done that so I doubt it's anything to worry about

Yes they do. Hoplos are also bubble nesters.
