tank size

And why not? I think most keepers would be tempted to add other fish and 'communify' (bushism, sorry) the tank. Takes a fair degree of discipline to maintain a strict species set-up, especially when it's for a relatively small individual adult. Possibly more than I have......
I like 'drab fish'; I just don't see them as drab!

The largest tank you can see your way clear to provide would be best but personally i would not have anything less than a 10 gallon for one of these beautiful creatures.

I have a betta in a 1 gallon and he loves it. :|

I think NativeKeeper means that you should have a 10 gal. if you plan to put a betta in with others...but that's just my take on it

I just got a 55 gal for my beta and he loves every inch of it !!!
He swims back and forth all day long and seams to love the large tank.
I had my last beta in a 29 gal tank.. and originally bought this tank for him... then he died and I was left with no beta in my life..
So here is my new beta ( Red)...
Sorry, I tried to post a photo and cant, I would post a photo here if I knew how !! lol
I also have 4 guppies in that tank with him and because of the space I dont think he cares that there there.
He is just so happy to be out of that cup from petsmart !!
