Advice please

Postby 22Princess22 » Sun Sep 02, 2012 11:38 am

Hiya all :-)
I am looking at getting a betta and would like to get a few more fish to go with it.
The tank I have is about 45litres.
I am going to put a couple of live plants in the tank.
Q1 what plants do bettas like?
Q2 how many fish could I have?
Q3 what type of fish would make good tank makes?
I would like a couple of sucker type fish, maybe a shrimp or two and also like the look of neon tetras. Are any of these good tank mates?
Thank you for any help you are able to offer

Bettas like all plants.
You have to be careful what you put with these fish as their long flowing fins are tempting to many of the shorter finned varieties that like to nibble on them. Most people find keeping a betta on its own a lot easier. They are very slow moving and like little water movement so can miss out on the food when with other, faster species (and most fish are faster).

Thank you for your reply :-)
I understand that they can be kept on their own, I would however like a couple of other fish in the tank tho
Do you know of any fish that are good with bettas?
Thank you

I have a betta in my tank and as you mentioned neons I have a small group of 6 cardinal tetras and they get on well, not a single problem. As I understand there was a little risk of fin nipping but as it is only a small group they tend to keep to themselves .

I have heard that pygmy corydoras can work too. Very cute fish. Full of life and energy.
