Newbie advice?

Postby IndianoAnnie » Sun Sep 16, 2012 7:27 pm

Hi,
Im still in the process of cycling my tank but I am researching fish that would be suitable in my tank. I would like a few bettas and have looked at the temp range and was wondering if they could go okay with Danios?
Also how many would be suitable for my tank size?
Are bettas the same as siamese fighting fish, if not can they be kept together?

Thanks alot :)
Thanks,
Annie :)

Yes bettas are the same - Betta splendens, Siamese fighting fish. You do not keep them together in a community tank. Males will kill each other and a pair should only be together when spawning, then they must be separated.
You need to avoid fish that will not be able to resist nibbling on long, flowing fins.

It's not a good idea to keep Bettas (Siamese Fighters) with Danios - The Danios are too fast and boisterous, are inclined to nip long, flowing fins when they get bored, and need a lot of swimming space. Sorry :?
All the advice I give is based on my own personal 30 years of experience.

Okay, may consider taking danios back when cyclings done and buy a betta and more "betta proof" fish.

Thanks,
Annie :)
