4eyes tank

Postby 4eye » Thu Jun 23, 2011 7:59 pm

Already did my hellos a lil while back....but as ive just bought some new fish i thought id start my own tread for my tank.

i recently rehomed 28 platy so thought a new stock type was jn order

in my tank is....1xcommon plec(11 1/2"),4 glowlites , 5 neons,4 guppys,2 loachs...the new editions are 6 red phantoms and two corys....an albino and a pepper.

will post pics as soon as the new members settle in.

i think i'll just be getting tetra types from now on....i just like them and they do differ a lot so think my next stock will be 5-6rummynoses and may get one more cory for a trio..also want 1or2 female neons gor the lads in my tank.

thanks for reading

I am surprised you manage to keep plants in there as those plecs often uproot them as they rummage about, or just rip them out when they flick their tail!
I suggest you eventually add more glowlights or more phantoms

ive never had to reposition plant because hes popped one out....and ive had it for nearly 10years.a friend gave him to me pretty much the size he is now...so not sure exactly how old it is....at a guess i'd say 15ish.

im hoping that the glowlights icrease their own numbers but i will get more if this dosnt happen in a couple of months as i stolck up and lower the ph

looking at the tank this morning the new editions have settled in nicley.....but the neons behaviour have changed to being a tad shy...hiding in the wood and plants....im thinkin of upping their numbers if they arnt happy. the glowlights seem happy enough to swim with the phantoms and likewise.....so may hold off getting the rummys this week to sort these lil guys out,and maybe get some taller thin leaf plants

any other ideas....please fire away....!

my neons where fine while younger they didnt mind the slower flow and circulation then as they matured to adults they started to hide,i wanted some guppies in my small tank so popped a few of the neons in the 3 foot tank well what a difference they came to life, loved the flow and circulation so popped the rest of the tetras and cardinals in the big tank and they are great they love it never hide
great plec ,my plec never digs or dislodges the plants either

well i went to my lfs and bought some of the last stock till i make changes.....i bought 2 more neons and glowlights.....and 6 rummynose.

the neons like i said was to help them feel more secure so hopfully by morning things will seem better for them,. i waasnt going to but i bought two very near full grown glowlights(thought no one would want them as all seem to eant babies and they are huge!)females,in fact they are larger than the ones i have in my tank already :P ....but they are super happy now and have been scholing for the past half hour.

as for the rummys....i think they have added the icing to a very nice cake!

oh and i have a stowawy,,,a lil extra from the lfs....not sure what it is but its swimming away in the tank.....hope to find out soon as if its a problem i would like to return it...but it looks harmless....in fact its tiny.

the changes i was refering to was possibly finding a sutible home for the plec and (the smaller of the 2)a sucking loach....but think i may end up keeping them.

enough talk....hears a couple of pics
the stowaway... :P

hi and thankyou......as easy as it settles below it comes up just the same  because the pebbles aren't compact the suction draws quite well :P

have had no problems in the 5 years of this setup(bar some bad stock from pets at home  )

Well i've been window shopping for some real plants for my tank...though best buys i can find are on.ebay.....going for some java fern, anubias, java moss when i get some spare cash.

also been looking for some more bogwood as I've moved the tank around slightly and the tetra seem so much happier having a bit more security.

my plec dont mind change as long a i dont touch his log
i had to lift his log up about a fortnight ago, i just raised it up slightly because he was knocking himself on it and placed it back in exactly the same place just a little higher, well what a hissy fit he threw stropped around the tank, then shoved the clowns from under his log when he eventually moved back in a few hours later
he then spent the next hour flicking the gravel out that had got shoved back in when i bedded the rocks in to lift his log up
hes worse then a teenager
it did take him a few more days to settle down proberly tho
