Postby ady » Tue Apr 30, 2013 6:31 pm

yep it just under 2 weeks i shall be moving house....oh the joy of it...

not moving very far, but still....nitemare if ya moving a tank....or 3.....

i have just ordered all my bags, got 2 poly transport boxes sorted out.. going to use new bags for fish and old bags for plants.

ordered 10 plant fert cones, new bottle of tetra aqua safe.....i think i got everything now tho....

just wondering if i used an airline in the filter once moved, would it help maintain the bacteria ??...will have tank water in so doesnt dry out...they airline will supply O2 and movement of the water...well thats my plan anyway...anyone else got an suggestions ???.....mite try the filter pipes in a bucket and get it flowing properly...

it will be getting a really good clean once stripped, not that it's dirty anyway.......but may aswell do it
whilst i have the chance 8) .....

Are the keys available before the actual moving day?
The last time we moved, I got the keys a few days before and moved the tanks early so they could be set up ahead of time - less for me to worry about on the actual day :D

For that short a distance it ought to be quick and easy. Remind me of tank sizes please.
Why use bags? For that distance I would be throwing filter, heater and fish in buckets (or directly into the poly box) then pouring them back in the tank once it is in its new position.

We are doing a 3 way exchange,so cant get in the house
In advance ...shame

Tanks are 250l,and 2 54 l tanks...they polysterine boxes
Arnt water tight, unfortunatly.so having to use bags.

Hopefully they wont be too long in the bags, but
have to replant,so will be awhile tho

Thanks for replies

When we moved this time, I used a brand new kitchen bin for the fish and internal filter - filled about a third of the bin with tank water.
I decided to do it this way in case I couldn't get the tank up and running quickly - I was able to plug the filter in to keep both the bacteria and fish alive while they waited for their new home :D

I do a similar thing to A/F when I move or move someone else's tanks for them but I use a fermenting bucket with a sealable lid while I transport them then put the filter and heater in the bucket on reaching the destination while I set up the tank. If travelling for more than 2 hours I put an airstone in to keep it oxygenated that runs off 2 AA batteries. Available from any good tackle shop.
