building a koi pond

Postby CarpCharacin » Thu Apr 09, 2015 12:27 am

I am building a large pond for some koi. I am going to build it half below ground and half above ground. I am having 3 feet above ground and 3 feet below ground. The fish are in a temporary holding tank now. I dug the hole 3 feet down and now i am going to get wood to build the aboveground part. I will post pictures.

Sounds like an interesting project and it's great that you're planning for good water depth. Look forward to seeing some pictures.

If my garden was big enough I would love a Koi pond.

Looking forward to seeing pics

I too look forward to pics.
Koi are illegal in my country but once a year in the Waikato area they have a competition among the Bowhunter Societies to shoot as many as possible as they are a pest here.
During the Huntly-based World Carp Classic in 2004, society members shot 3278 carp weighing a total of 8619kg. The society's record for the biggest was 14.44kg, caught in the Waihau River near Paeroa. :D
