Postby IndianoAnnie » Thu Oct 11, 2012 9:43 pm

i have had my tank set up about 5 week with 4 danios in. After doing a water change tonight and looking in filter i have discovered fry!! Im soo suprised as with my tank cycling and stuff i didnt think the conditions would be good enough for this to happen! could anyone give me any advice???
Although due to the fact that i have just done a water change the chances atre that i have just killed alot :( . is there anything i can do to help keep as many as i can alive ? thankss :)
Thanks,
Annie :)

Sorry you did not get a reply but I suspect it was because nobody has had danio fry in a filter so were unable to offer you the advice you asked for (and I have been overseas without internet access). I am surprised and fry survived at all.
To keep them alive (may be too late now) you will need to separate them from the other fish or they will get eaten.

Okay thanks, yeah I have done that, they have been there for almost a week now I have them in one of those fry net things. Any idea how long they will take to grow? I have around 30 maby more.
Thanks,
Annie :)

Feeding them is your biggest problem. When first hatched, they feed on their egg sacs for about 3 days then need very fine food like infusoria (you can buy infusoria tablets apparently. It is too late to grow your own but they may have been getting food from the filter media). Once they are 2 weeks old they should be big enough to eat newly hatched brine shrimp and very fine flake food.
When they are 1 month old they need to go into a 75L rearing tank. Then feed several times a day, little but often. Make sure water quality is excellent so small water changes daily will be required.
