Am I nearly there? Fish in cycle.

I have been cycling my tank since 2nd January and have never yet seen any nitrites. I seem to haver been stuck in the ammonia stage. You may have seen my other thread http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=18467.

When I tested my tank water on Monday 25th I found my ammonia had dropped to zero. Up until this point I had been doing daily water changes of around 10% and have had ammonia levels of around 1ppm to 0.5ppm for several weeks.

I have stopped doing the water changes since then and my ammonia level has now stayed at zero for three days. I am now quite optimistic that my cycle is making progress and would be keen to hear your opinions on this.

Do you think I should start seeing nitrites appear soon?
If so how soon?
Do you know how long the nitrite stage of the cycle usually lasts?

I hope I'm not getting too presumptious here but I am feeling quite excited about it after becoming somewhat despondent over the last several weeks.

Thank you

I could be wrong but normally its shortly after ammonia appears nitrite then appears, then once they are both reading 0 all should be well.
