Fluval Roma 90 and U2 filter

Postby Clivebham » Fri Oct 11, 2013 4:01 pm

Hi, I'm a newbie.

Have a fluval Roma 90 tank with U2 filter.

Tank has been up and running for about five weeks. Two weeks with fish. On advice from aquarium dealer, we have 6 neon tetras. Have tested water several times, no nitrate or nitrites present at the moment, just a slight increase in ammonia levels.

My question is What's the best way to clean the supplied U2 filter. How often should I clean it. Fluval recommend changing the filter pads every two weeks ? Also how long before I start changing the water in the tank ?

Many thanks for any advice

I only clean my filter out when the flow starts to drop, when you do clean it make sure you clean it in old aquarium water not using fresh tap water (this will kill the good bacteria in the filter which keeps the ammonia and nitrite levels at 0).
I clean mine out every 5-6 months

Water changing can be done whenever but I would recommend at least once a week.

Leave the filter alone and do water changes to keep the ammonia at 0.
