Is the bristlenose a plec or a catfish, or r they the samething?
My local lfs's look at me daft when I ask about them.(Are they called anything else?)

They are in the catfish family, as are plecs. Bristlenose catfish is the common name; they are a species of Ancistrus.
Don't let your mind wander. It's too small to be let out on its own.

In my other tank (not with my baby BN) i have a huge male BN and he definately suits the name Bushynose. His bristles are huge and there are tons of them.

The one I have is at least 4" but he isnt finished growing yet i dont think. He is getting bigger all the time but compared to the two that have the babies he is double the size of them. He maybe will stop soon though.

I just meant he was huge compared to the other BN's i have.

Phew! I've just purchased one yesterday (Sunday) but had to travel a good half hour to get one. (My 4 other lfs's didnt have any, or didn't know what I was talking about)
I got the bristlenose, because I wanted one that didn't grow too big, I only have a 200ltr tank with community fish :)
I thought fow a minute, you were going to say yours was 15" long or something like that

Hahaha now if i were talking about my plec in my community tank then i could probably say that it would grow to about that judging by the rate he is growing.

I dont know why that particular bristlenose is so much bigger than the rest. He is about the same age as far as i can gather.

Have you ever seen a twig catfish? (Dont know its real name). We have one of them in the community tank as well he is about 8 " long but thin just like a twig. He is brilliant, he doesnt swim as such he just sort of bounces about. He has a mouth like a plec.

He loves cucumber and algae really just the same as a normal plec. He has a long nose and his plec mouth is just under his nose and then he starts thicker but gets thinner the closer to the tail you get and he is sort of mottled brown just like a twig. I am trying to get a picture but whenever i go near the tank he jumps off.

He is definately a talking point.

Sounds like a cutie, I wouldn't mind a look if you get a snapshot of him. How big will he grow to?

I think that is as far as he will grow now, we have had him a good couple of years. He is so funny because he cant swim as such so he sort of jumps about the tank and lands on other fish and stuff. He is funny to watch. He isnt very flexible if you can imagine one of those wooden or plastic snakes that kids have that move in links, that sort of sums him up. Am gonna try and get a piccie of him tommorrow for you. Their light is off now so wont get a pic.
