What's wrong with my black Molly

Postby Sarah999 » Sat Jan 14, 2012 6:45 pm

Today when I went downstairs my black Molly was all puffy looking and his scales are sticking out, he is acting normal, what's wrong with him and what should I do!

If it looks like a pinecone all over, it is likely dropsy. This is actually a symptom, not a disease. It means the fish's internal organs are shutting down and there is no cure.
If it is just the belly area, it may be constipated. Try feeding it a shelled pea, as peas are a fishy laxative. If this doesn't work Google the dose rates of bath in Epsom Salts.

I gave him a pea yesterday and today and I went to my local fish store and had my water tested and it's all fine and they gave me some internal bacteria medicine and some aqua tonic salt, hopefully it should Help, is aqua tonic salt the as Epsom salts? (I'm kinda new to this)
Thanks

No it is different. Epsom Salt is magnesium suphate and is a laxative.

If it appears to bother him, net him gently and pull the pea off. You may have to use tweezers depending on how small the bit of pea is. I would expect it to drop off through as I imagine the fish is just chewing on it and it isn't actually stuck.
