golden chinese algae eaters

Postby donna121kitten » Thu Jul 12, 2012 6:13 pm

Hi guys.

Need abit of help with my golden algae eaters.

I got two of them about 3 months ago now and all has been fine, Thay settled in really well.

BUT....

one of them has turned black all over. still eating and swimming around so no probs there but just seems abit strange.
The other one is fine. The black one has no other marks and his fins are all ok.

So just woundered if any else knows of this. Thay were about an inch long when i first got them and now there about 2 inch.

Thanks guys. x x x

I wonder if it is a genetic thing. They were originally dark coloured and the goldens are a colour morph. If there are a lot of dark ones in their ancestry it may just be reverting back to the original colour.

Sometimes a poor diet and a lack of light can cause fish to revert to more natural colors.

its def not poor diet or lighting as all the other fish are very healthy and thay only get the best food. plus live blood worms once a week.
it just seems wired that one has stayed the same and the other one has gone all most black.

have to see how it goes.

Thanks guys.

Turning black can also be a sign of serious illness but with no other symptoms, I would be surprised if that was the case this time.
