Broken glass in tank

Postby Coco » Tue Jul 17, 2012 3:39 pm

I've just done a pwc and took off the thermometer to clean away the algae underneath. I noticed the bottom of the thermometer is broken off. I can't see any glass amongst the gravel but that would be virtually impossible anyway as it is natural multi-coloured gravel. Not sure what to do really unless I completely replace the substrate. Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do? I don't have any bottom feeders in there.

The only one in danger is probably you, or any other human who runs their hand through the substrate. My other thought though is, was it a mercury thermometer and I wonder if the mercury will be a problem?
