what's wrong with my fishy :-(

Postby MBOP » Thu Jul 26, 2012 8:28 pm

Hello,

I have a black widow tetra that since last night have been constantly opening and closing its mouth really quicky, I thought at first it might have something stuck in its mouth but it doesn't. It isnt gasping for air as its swimming nowhere near the top, all my other fish are fine and I change my water every week.

It seems to be swimming okay, maybe slightly to one side but I can't understand why its constantly moving its mouth :-(

Can anyone help me?

Thank you

If your water parameters are fine and your other fish are not showing any symptoms then I would say that it just nature taking it's cause

I would check your water parameters. Ammonia and Nitrite levels. If these are fine it could be a poorly fish. My neon Tetras did this and they all eventually died within a couple of days, was a dodgy batch of fish I think as the others are fine and I bought those 3 from the same store.

Do the gills look normal?

It may have some sort of bacterial infection.

Sorry to hear that. Often, without a microscope and dissection, you have no idea why a fish has died :?
