Sick cherry barb?

Postby peter212693 » Tue Jul 31, 2012 8:04 am

Hello all,

One of my female cherry barbs seems a bit off. Shes keeping away from the others hiding in the plants. Her month is moving a lot but the gills are not. Last night I noticed a string of white poo "I think" coming out of her. Its a little longer this morning, she has not eaten as far as I can see for 2 - 3 days now.

Is this something more serious or just a case of constipation? Water test all come back fine too and its only this one fish effected.

Thanks

It would also help if you provided a link to the video
White poo can indicate internal parasites but if she hasn't eaten for a few days then that may also account for it. If she is producing poo (no matter what colour) then she isn't constipated.
What is your male to female ratio? She could be trying to rest after being hassled by amorous males. Is she looking fat? They can get egg bound.

I fed again last night but wasnt interested again in the food. No more white poo has appeared though which hopefully is a good thing!

Hard to tell but she could be upset because she clashes with the colour of that pink plant!
She is nice and plump, rather than pinecone-like, so she could be egg bound. Usually, they expel the eggs regularly (even if there are no males) but sometimes they have a problem doing this.

Still a little worried about her. Have not seen her eat for about a week now, unless scraps have flowed into the plants. Still swimming fine but just staying in the plants and not coming out at all :(

Edit: after feeding tonight still not interested swimming with fins a little clamped. I did see a little bit of brown poo ha going from her but this fell off quite quick. Still unsure what's up with her.

Ive added a couple more videos. She seems to be hiding as I say but this is the most she has moved out from behind the plant in a while. Also I noticed if one of the other females cherrys comes near she will chase it off...

It is really hard to offer any other suggestions. She actually looks normal, not too thin, not too fat. Apart from staying in the corner with her head down a little she seems relatively OK. I am not sure there is anything you can do other than keep an eye on her. If she worsens, or starts being picked on, she will need to be separated.

Thanks for all your help, im just new to this an learning more everyday. The positive for me today was her chasing the other female cherrys so I will keep an eye on here.

The biggest thing worrying me is not seeing her eat for a good week now as all the others go crazy for the food.
