Catching large plecos

Postby Janet » Sun Sep 02, 2012 10:04 pm

I am moving house and of course need to move my tank. I have a large rusty pleco but I've never had to catch him before - any advice? He's about 20cm long.
Thanks.

They aren't actually too bad at being handled (if you have a placid one). Be very careful of the spines on the end of the rays though.
Leave the plec until there is very little water left in the tank then use a small wet towel to place over it then carefully use your hands around the towel to lift it out and into the container you are using for the move. Hold it around the middle and make sure you have the pectorals flat along the body so it can't stab you. Towel and hands must be wet.
