Brown Algae and Apple Snails

Postby mjw2004u2 » Sat Sep 15, 2012 10:32 am

Hi everyone, I haven't been on for a while, due to my tank being ok after your wonderful advice. Anyhow, I seem to have a lot of brown algae appearing everywhere, on the glass, plants, wood, rocks etc. I only feed once every other day (should I cut that down?), I clean the inside of the glass religiously, but it is back within a few days. I remove the brown leaves, but it still comes back. I have a bristlenose plec, but he doesn't seem to be eating much of the algae (do they eat brown algae or just green?). Do apple snails eat brown algae? If so, would they be ok with assassin snails, because I have a few of them? If not, can anyone recommend anything else that is good for eating brown algae? Like I said, I have a bn plec, 3 corys, 1 x angel, 4 x harlequin rasboras, 5 x 5 band barbs, 4 x cherry barb, and 4 x rosy retras. It is a tall 200l tank, so I think I can manage a few more fish or snails????

Thanks in advance, Michelle :-)
