Dying angelfish

Postby Emma1981 » Thu Nov 08, 2012 10:16 pm

For the past week our angelfish have not been too good. They are currently lying in their sides at the bottom of the tank but still breathing. One of the fish looks like its got a swollen stomach area and before it got ill, had a very long piece of faeces hanging from it. They have now been lying on the bottom of the tank for 3 days. They are my other halfs fish and he has tried a few things; water change, checked ph level, treated with antibacterial stuff. He normally looks after the tank so not sure whst the problem is. They also have what looks like stringy fluff hanging off their bodies. Does anyone know whst is wrong with them and whether its treatable? The rest of the fish are ok.

They sound really ill and should be removed from the main tank and quarantined so they can be treated separately.
Have you checked the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels? Just because the other fish are fine does not mean something is not out with the water chemistry and the angels are the most sensitive to it so have reacted first.
Stringy fluff hanging off their bodies suggests either a major fungal infection (usually secondary to something else) or they are over-producing their slime coat in an effort to get rid of parasites or to protect them from poor water conditions.
Have you got a pic of them?
