Killer Shrimp Caught in Action!

Postby SRThomas » Wed Jun 26, 2013 6:45 pm

As I mentioned in a recent topic, I was suffering occasional deaths. I thought it may have been either a giant shrimp (approximately 4in long: having had a long around the internet, it appears to be a Macrobrachium sp.), or some crabs. Well, having introduced fish today, it was quite clear that a giant shrimp was the culprit. Within ten minutes he had caught and was eating (alive) a Bolivian Ram! I eventually managed to catch him, following some amusing/distressing chasing around with a net whilst he continued to eat the fish. I managed to catch him. The Ram is alive, but somewhat mutilated around the head: hopefully it will survive.

Anyway; I cannot keep it as it is a clear danger to its tankmates. And, in the course of this email, it has jumped out of its current container and caused a considerable scene with the other half....

If anyone is willing to take it, then pm me, but I cannot keep it indefinitely.
