They are lovely, AF. Gwen don't realise just how big a tank we have to get to keep the lionfish happy. :D

Its ok Caryl, I have no intention of letting him lose. Lol
As for getting obese he has a strict diet of flake and marine pellet with frozen treats every 2 weeks.
I read on 1 site about feeding them live fish. That is actually illegal here. In the states though they feed them goldfish guppies and mollies which is what causes them the get obese and causes early death.

Lionfish themselves are illegal here in NZ. One or two have appeared in one of our northern marine reserves and causing great consternation as they will decimate the local populations if able to establish themselves. :(

Saw some of these volitans lionfish at either London Zoo or the London Sealife Aquarium on a visit last year - impressive fish and ENORMOUS!
