Happy New Year from NZ

Postby Carylnz » Wed Jan 01, 2014 1:53 am

Interesting news article this morning says;

Forget Wellington - Auckland is the capital city of New Zealand, according to a British newspaper. :?
The blunder occurred as the Telegraph reported on New Year's Eve celebrations around the world.
"The city of Auckland was the first major world capital to let off the fireworks as the country marks the beginning of the New Year," it said.

It was not the first time the Telegraph has attempted to rewrite New Zealand history.
In May last year the newspaper annoyed Kiwis by describing New Zealand-born and raised Sir Edmund Hillary as a "great Briton".

Not sure which was worse, the Telegraph for that error or America's CNN with their "Auckland, Australia" headline!
I think the Aussies' fireworks off the Sydney Harbour Bridge are the best of the lot.
Personally we had a very quiet new year and I did not see or hear any of the public fireworks but a few neighbours let off some small ones of their own.
