Is this about right?

Postby fonejacker » Thu Dec 08, 2011 8:59 pm

I joined another specialist forum, and I was surprised with the advice they gave concerning tank size, so I just wanted to see what was advised here to make sure.

I have three baby fancies: a Black Moor, a Black Ranchu and a Calico Fantail. They are small, no more than three inches in length combined.

I have been given a tank size recommendation of at least 150 litres (40 US gallons). I was shocked at first to hear this, because my current 65 litre tank looks about the right size for them at the mo, and (considering their age), but I don't intentionally want to give them less space than they generally need.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

They are correct 65Litres is no home for them, Black Moors can grow up to 10", Ranchu's 8" and Calico fantails also about 10"

They may be little now, but fish must be kept in an tank capable of hosting their fully grown size,

I would agree. Goldfish should grow large and they produce a LOT of waste. Their growth is slowed when kept in too small a tank. I would not put 3 goldfish in less than 120L.
