Name and shame!

Postby Scotty_Gilk_82 » Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:43 am

Time to name and shame our suppliers. On Friday, I witnessed an Oscar chasing round a siamese fighter. What other school boy errors have my fellow members been upset by?

We do but who has the money to fight law suits?
Why do you consider this a schoolboy error? Many feed live fish to their large cichlids. The fighter may have been a cull.

Slander is illegal, so we cannot name and shame, only state positive opinions on those shops that do it well. If asked about a particular shop then you can give your opinion but otherwise not really. But yeah oscar and betta, wouldnt of thought that would work too well either!

I also wont name the shop but there was a fully grown plec was in a tank with a fully grown parrot. The parrot was floating and looked like the plec had rammed into it. I asked the owner and they said that that was what happened. The fish died soon after that! :(

You wont get sued for stating obvious mistakes that these stores are making  . If that's the case, I may as well not bother asking for advice on here again, just buy whatever and hope for the best.

There was a case a few years back (Robert Novak v ADP) that cost millions of dollars.
We are only a small forum so can't afford to risk being cited for libel.

You can ask what people think of a certain store/chain and we can answer as long as we don't assassinate them; for example,
Has anyone used Jays' Aquatics in Tavistock?
, we can reply with something like
Yes, they are fantastic
or
I went once but wasn't impressed, so won't be going again
(Jays' is actually a brilliant shop - I know the owner well, so she won't mind me using her as an example)

Does that make sense?
It's up to you if you want to stay or not, we don't hold members at gunpoint. But we can't and won't tolerate people badmouthing others.
All the advice I give is based on my own personal 30 years of experience.

Slating & naming stores and asking advice from fellow enthusiasts on the forum are totally different things

Let's all damage someone's reputation for entertainment!

You might sign up with a daft name but you are not anonymous on the internet. Every time you post your IP address is logged, libellous comments can be traced back to you, and the owner/owners of this forum will have to comply with any legal request to supply your IP addy. Can anyone remember the Sheffield Wednesday libel case where they successfully sued members of Owlstalk.co.uk for posting libellous comments about the club on that forum board? Want that to happen to you? Thought not. :innocent:

You'd all abuse me if I put an Oscar in with a siamese fighter, this site is going down hill. Disgraceful.

Haven't seen anyone abused for anything matey, if that were the case then the site really would go downhill. Why not ask the store owner for an explanation instead of grating your cheese on here?

Care to elaborate? Nothing has changed here. We don't libel and we don't break copyright laws - It's been that way since we started over 10 years ago.

Scotty_Gilk_82 - If you're unhappy with the way we work and the advice we give, feel free to join another forum - There are plenty out there that don't care who they slag off.
