Mystery clouding water???

Postby steveyg81 » Tue Jan 10, 2012 5:35 pm

Hi, iv been having some trouble with my tank, the last couple of weeks the water has been quite "misty". Its not too bad when the lights are off but when I switch them on there is a noticeable haze.
I have an eheim 2217 running and I thought that maybe it wasn't quite enough mechanical filtration as it has mainly substratpro in the canister.(there is filter floss and 2 sponges in too).

I decided to reinstate my fluval u3 to see if I just need more filtration, this does not seem to have made much difference.

Could it be my artificial plants?
Also, I put a lot of rocks in there a couple of weeks ago?

Its a vision 180, stocked as signature below.
Chemistry, Ph 7.5, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate floats between 0 and 5 ppm.
I do weekly 20% water changes with conditioned water.

Please help!! I may be being picky but I think it looks a mess!! Thanks in advance,

Steve.

im a bit of a newbie but had the same problem recently,it turned out to be planaria(small white worms that are just visible if you look close enough)they are harmless but do seem to cloud the water and as you say its looks worse when lights are on,the cure i was told was not to feed the fish for 2 to 3 days as the worms live on uneaten food, this seems to have worked for me, hope this helps

If it turns out to be planaria, it is a sign you are overfeeding.

Thanks for the advice caryl.
I think that may be down to my other half, she always says I don't give them enough :?
I rely on her to feed them when im at work, so I will politely set her straight lol
