Aggressive golden barbs!

Postby Gary fergusson » Fri May 18, 2012 8:25 pm

Hi. I recently added 4 golden barbs to my aquarium in the assumption that they would be fine with the existing 8 Tiger Barbs, 6 Zebra Danio, 1 Siamesse flying fox, and 1 Cherry barb. Unfortunately I was wrong! The first couple of days they were fine but now they just go around terrorising the Tiger Barbs constantly nipping at their fins, wand they dont even try to fight back, which surprises me as they are bigger and there is more of them. The only fish that dont take any nonsence is the single cherry barb and flying fox.
Are these fish known to be more aggressive??
I'll give it a couple of more days and if no improvement I suppose I will have to give them back to the fish shop  unless anyone has any ideas??

Barbs like to be in a group of their own species, preferably 6 or more. I would guess the newcomers are trying to find their place in the existing tier of dominance. They may settle down. I have golden barbs and they have never bothered other fish.
