ammonia present in tap water.

Postby ady » Mon Aug 27, 2012 1:43 pm

hi all...

over the last few weeks i have noticed, increased levels of ammonia in the tank.thru a process of elimination icam e to the idea that it maybe present in my water.water changes have not helped it.

filter working fine etc etc.

today i just tested my tap water because yesterday i had a glass of water and noticed a chemical type taste.the API master kit shows a colour between 0 and 0.25..thats not good :? ...

it's not like the water has to come far.....reservoir is 1/4 mile away up the hill.

gutted.....i'm gonna contact the local water board and ask em why....

just wondering if anyone has advice on this nightmare situation.....

thanks ady

apparently they have done a major work project and as a precaution have added the ammonia to ensure all bugs are flushed thru and system sterile...according to a workman....should reduce soon tho....

still have it in the tapwater....hope it goes back to normal soon..

well at the risk of being hypocritical,i've had to do something i would never advocate in normal running of a tank...

i've had to purchase and use some ammonia remover to try and eliviate the levels.

i know it is bound and not truly removed, but i have to do summin....levels still persisting in tap water....   .....

my fish seem alot happier now.....cant wait for the water to reduce back to normal....damn you anglian water....
