Help!

Postby jasyn » Fri Oct 05, 2012 2:13 am

Hi All

Need help with nitrite problem. I have a 110ltr tank, live plants, a fluval filter and temp is at 25*C.
I have just tested for ammonia, nitrite nd nitrate.
Ammonia is 0
Nitrate is 20
But nitrite is still present Evan after a 50% water change.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or do I get more plants?

I also have 9 fish,
6 female guppy
3 pilatis

How long has the tank been set up for?

Sounds to me that the tank is still cycling. What is your Nitrite reading?

Constant water changes should keep it under control until the tank has cycled then it should be 0 along with ammonia

I started 5 weeks ago and went through a fishless cycle till it went to 0 then added 9 fish, but nitrite came back. 0.25 is the level its at.
Thank you for helping.

It could be going through a mini cycle. I would cut down on feeding and keep up the water changes. Maybe 20% every day until you see the level drop.

Are you using liquid test or strips to test the levels of Ammonia and Nitrite?

Thank you for the advice, much appreciated. I use liquid test and a ph pen.
I will test in the morning and if nitrite still there, will do a 20% change as you say.
