One of my tiger barbs has changed colour...

Postby twooo » Thu Nov 15, 2012 12:12 am

Well, not completely, but is discernibly lighter than the other 5, and his stripes are a sort of iridescent greeny colour, rather than a vivid black like the others. I'm not sure if he/she was like that when I bought it (I've only had four of them 2 weeks and the other two since Monday) or whether it has changed colour since I've had it.

Is this normal? He/she looks healthy enough and is swimming, eating and interacting with the other fish normally.

Thanks guys

Quite possibly a hybrid of colour morphs so colour probably normal. If whole fish is pale then that indicates illness.

Thanks. It doesn't matter anymore anyway as they've gone back - they started beating up my danios and chewing their fins and tails off. I got them without reading up on their aggressive nature. Replaced with some silver danios now which hopefully will be a bit more sociable.

I have heard of people saying tiger barbs are aggressive but I have never found them so. Of course, if you keep them in a good sized group in a large enough tank then their behaviour is totally different and they are a lovely fish.

Yes, I have found this out. I have come to realise my tank isn't really big enough anyway - or won't be in a few months time when things have got a bit bigger, which is why I've posted a thread in the For Sale/Wanted section.

Thanks for your help though.
