How to do this big re-scape?

Postby AquaticRabbit » Sun Dec 01, 2013 5:47 pm

Hi everyone, I just joined the forum! :balloons: So come Christmas time, I want to do BIG re-scapes of my 2 tanks. I have one 60 litre tank http://i.imgur.com/TRCncWZ.jpg and one 24 litre tank http://i.imgur.com/Bd2iBEc.jpg. Seriously, the 24 litre has two strands of cabomba in it under a stone!

60 litre re-scape:
Change gravel so it is just black
Change plants so it looks like this: http://www.tropica.com/en/layouts/layout-1-(54l)/description.aspx (or similar)
Have one of those air curtain bubble wall things
Change the filter to this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aquarium-Filter ... ions+600ho

Questions: 1) Where am I going to put the fish while I am sorting out the gravel?
2) How do I change the filter? (There will be no beneficial bacteria and the fish will probably die if I just put the new one in)

24 litre re-scape

Add more black gravel
Put plant substrate under the gravel
Make a iwagumi style type thing so it looks like this: http://www.aquascapingworld.com/threads ... gumi.7092/ (or similar)

Questions: 1) Same as no.1 on 60 litre re-scape
2) The filter in this one is great but it keeps slipping down because the suction pads are rubbish. How can I stop this?

Thanks in advance and I hope you can help :)

I would think you could put the fish altogether in one tank while you re-scape the other. Hard to see all the fish so not sure if some may eat others if you do this.
If that isn't viable, put them in a bucket with an airstone or buy a food safe plastic container.
As for the filter, can you not put the media from the old filter into the new one? If not, squeeze the old media over the new to get it started.
Slipping filter - buy new sucker pads.

Thanks for the post. :)

What can I use as a lid on the bucket so the fish don't jump out? I will put some old filter media in with the new one.

I added some cabomba and crypts to my 24 litre. My dwarf gourami loves to nibble at cabomba.

If you think the fish might jump out just put some cardboard on top, or a large book (in a plastic bag in case it gets splashed). A tea towel draped over it would be enough.
