Starting again

Postby swissfish » Sat Dec 14, 2013 2:59 pm

I've had a tank for a number of years, but earlier this year I got a bit lazy  and now the tank is full of back algae.

I think the best option is to completely start again, ie give the tank & equipment a thorough clean and get fresh gravel etc. But I have some questions about the process:
1. Will the algae remain in the filter sponges (or even the fish...)?
2. If I keep the existing sponges will I need to start cycling again?

Thanks for any help on these questions, or for any advice!

If you clear out as much as possible then change the conditions so there is competition for the algae, it may disappear again.
1. Will the algae remain in the filter sponges (or even the fish...)? sponges yes, fish no.
2. If I keep the existing sponges will I need to start cycling again? No
