New tank/filter question

Postby Davy Jones » Mon May 20, 2013 8:20 pm

Hey guys, i'm back with another question! I have just bought one on these tanks for my second Siamese Fighter-

I've heard you can 'seed' a new tank/filter by using mature filter media, this tank comes with a hang on filter with these inside-

Is it possible to 'seed' these filter/carbon all in one things? If so, hows it done? Would using tank water from one of my mature tanks help?

Many thanks,

Squeeze the 'gunk' from your existing filters into your new tank

Or, will it fit inside your mature filter? Sit it in there to seed it. The squeezing, as suggested, works too.

Id give a squeeze of the mature filter into a bowl, with tank water in.
Then soak the new stuff in that for 15 mins..thats how i seed a new filter.

Thanks ady, I went a different path however. I bought a little sponge filter as I didnt want much water flow and popped the sponge inside my external filter, its been there for a few days so i'll take it out shortly and use that.

Many thanks,
