Change to Pool filter sand/Silica sand ?

Postby awais394 » Fri Jun 19, 2015 2:40 pm

Hi,

I have 110 liter tropical tank with Gourami, Tetras and Sword tails and thinking to replace gravel with the sand. Any advise which sand should I go for. I have did some research and confused about Play sand or Pool filter sand. If I should go for pool filter sand then where can I find it as i looked into B&Q and Homebase website but did not find it.

Please advise.

Thanks

It is my understanding that in the UK people use play sand.

A lot of people do use play sand, I've never tried pool filter sand.

There are also a few sands made specifically for use in aquariums. BD Aquarium Sand is very popular and quite widely available in many aquatic shops, and is plain tan colour. There are also some mixed colour sands that look more like real river sands, such as the Africa Sands range by Unipac.
