lighting question

Postby mickf » Sun Dec 11, 2011 10:36 am

Hi all,

I am going to start another planted tank after a 15 year break. I picked up an Arcadia 3 pendent quite cheap but need to change the 2 x 1400K marine bulbs, I am thinking about Osram 5200K Metal halide and 2 Arcadia 30W tubes, one Fresh water and the other Tropical, hung at about 12'' from the tank. The tank is 18'' deep. Can anyone advise me on, firstly if the bulbs and tubes are of the correct temperature for growing plants and secondly the best time cycle. As the lights can be timed independently I was thinking of having the tubes on for 6 or 8 hours with the MH lights on for only a couple of hours. I still have my old Dennerle CO2 injection gauges and solenoid etc and my old substrate heater cable. I am probably going to use Denerle deponit for the substrate topped with very fine gravel. The heater cable I have, has a thermostat and temperature sensor, can someone also advise on what temperature the stat should be set at.

Thanks al lot
