Could anybody recommend plant species that would thrive in hard water?

Java fern comes immediately to mind. Java moss, Anubias, vallisneria, a lot of the swords, mini sagittaria, in fact many plants will cope well if the balance is right. By that I mean fertiliser, CO2 and lighting. CO2 is not a necessity but you may need lower light and add a bit of fertiliser if you do not want to use CO2. I have never used it myself so can't offer too much advice in that department.
