Juwel lighting

Postby smarty2072 » Thu Mar 03, 2011 5:10 pm

Can anyone give me some advice please?

I have a Juwel aquarium which has developed a problem with its lighting. One of the tubes keeps dimming occasionally which seems to be getting worse. I have changed the tubes but this has made no difference. The unit itself seems sealed so cannot investigate inside. Any help would be appreciated?

Thanks,

Lee.

you are lucky that the lighting hasnt completely failed (which has happened to me twice!)

The first time it failed i had to get a new light bar

the second time it failed i did a lot of searching and found threads on cutting a hole in the light bar to allow access to the inverter, then bought a new inverter for about £10 and fitted it

I have one that doesnt work at all!
400 litres of lovely ammonium free water, a breeding pair of Oscars and some mental Lemon Barbs.

Thanks for the info. I did some research and decided that I would buy a new light unit. Once that arrives I will attempt to dismantle the old one with a view to repairing it so I can keep it as a spare. It appears that it is common for the Juwel units to fail so a spare would be handy.

Thanks,

I have found several posts on the Web where people have described the way they have replaced the ballast. They all seem to cut open the unit from the bottom, which then gives them the problem of making it water tight again. Is there any reason why you shouldn't go in through the top? other than the obvious one of spoiling the look of the top of the fish tank. :?

i went through the top, still have the piece removed as never got round to mounting it on a slightly larger piece of plastic to drop back in the hole.

I used a dremel with the cutting disc and only cut so much out as didnt know where the inverter was.

Make sure that you get the right type of inverter (correct wattage, number of tubes it needs to control, T5 or T8 ) and be prepared for it to be slightly different to the one thats fitted, they normally have a diagram on them so you can work out how the wiring has to be fitted.

:D My new light unit has arrived. Came with new tubes too which I wasn't expecting!

Only problem is that while I've been waiting I've had my tape measure out and realised I can fit a vision 180 where the Rio is at the moment. Is this the onset of MTS?

not really MTS if you are replacing a tank...you need to be keeping the Rio where it is and moving something else out of the room to fit the new tank

The wife thinks it will be a replacement. We all know that firstly, I wont be able to part with the old one and secondly, you have to tread slowly and carefully around the subject until she believes it was her idea to keep the old one! :innocent:

Just need to work out where I'm going to put it. :?
