Calcium deficient Snail?

My apple snail is looking a bit poorly, his shell is brittle, and he doesn't fit it any more, it doesn't seem to be growing as much as he is.

Is there anything I can put in my tank to help him a bit that won't affect the other fish? Or the other chemical levels in my tank?

Went to P@H and they suggested cockle shells, but AF reckons this might change my PH too much for my other fish?

Snails need alkaline water to keep their shells in top condition.

i read somewhere that cuttlefish ( this hard bit usually for budgie cages ) could help to improve snail shells

Cuttlefish bone is added to turtle tanks for that reason. Not sure if it has to be eaten or if just floating in the water is enough to alter alkalinity. It does not have to bee too far alkaline to improve the shell without being too alkaline for the fish. Most species are tolerant of a pH between 6.8 - 7.4.

Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, Bob the snail died over the weekend.
Kats' tank has a pH of 7.2, so I can't see that being the problem. I don't know the Hardness of her water, but as the snail wasn't her idea (men ), I know she won't be replacing it.
