Fin nipping

Postby AquaticRabbit » Sat Dec 21, 2013 7:53 pm

Hi everyone, I just got a new guppy today and he seems healthy. The problem is, my other fish (rummynose tetras and 1 other guppy) are nipping its fins. :? Is this just a territorial thing that will soon wear off? Do I need to help him? Both of the guppies are males. I am thinking it is a territorial thing because the other guppy has fancy fin and and the tetras don't nip at him.

Please let me know your thoughts as soon as possible, thanks in advance. :)

Sorry about the delay in reply but I, for one, have been away (with no cell or internet coverage).
You can usually keep male guppies together with few problems except the occasional nibble. Hopefully they have stopped picking on him by now.
Is he smaller than the other male? It could be a case of the bigger guppy showing his dominance.
The tetras will nibble randomly anyway.
If you have the space, add another male or two to spread any aggression.
