Electric off

Hi,
I have electricians coming in soon, and they will be switching the electric off, how long can fish live with no heat please.

Depends on the temperatures where you live. If it is winter (where I am it is summer and 28C so no problem) and electric is your only form of heating the house, as well as the tank, throw a thick blanket, or duvet, over the tank to keep the heat in. As the temperature will drop relatively slowly (assuming your house is insulated well) the fish will cope and just slow down to conserve energy. They will be fine for 24 hours or so this way. Once the power is back on the water will slowly come back up to normal. Slow temperature changes aren't too bad, it is sudden changes that upset the fish.
If it is only going to be off a few hours then there will be no problem. Remember the filter will stop as well. Give it a bit of a clean out the day before the power is turned off then all should be good.
