Give the sand a vac-over once a week and run your hands through it to prevent any gas pockets building up.
Air bubbles don't matter though. You might want to plan in some fish that will enjoy digging about in the sand for food as they're a great help in keeping it clean. _________________ Becky

I will get a pair of Kribs in the tank - have heard these like to rootle around? and also getting a bristlie, as they are bottom-feeders, does this mean they will dig around?
Also, the tank is very murky. I thought this was just the sand kicking up but it has been a day and still has not settled. should i change some of the water?? _________________ Superfish .. umm... something (20L)

Funny
Will you be putting live plants in your new tank or synthetic? _________________ Hils

LIVE! i hate synthetic plants... theyre really quite noticable and make the tank look less natural. Its the same as putting those plastic 'divers helmets' and loads of unrealistic shipwrecks etc. _________________ Superfish .. umm... something (20L)

I do agree.... we went synthetic when our Silver Dollars demolished all the live plants... but we're gradually finding plants that are hardy enough to withstand.
Shame, was going to offer you some of our now-redundant synthetics as a gift for your new tank!!
Will have to think again _________________ Hils

you could also think about adding some Malaysian trumpet snails. They dig through the substrate, helping to prevent gas pockets, and wriggling through plant roots, which apparently is a good thing. They also help to keep algae down, and they don't nibble plants like some snails do... or at least my well behaved ones don't. _________________ Juwel Vision 180

It's getting there bud, the murkiness will clear in a few days. Is it not noisey with the water outlet above the water?
If you get a plec you might want to think about getting a heater guard, they sometimes will rest on the heater & burn themselves _________________ er....Mark

Yes they will dig about.
Can I come see your red tail cat?
I would also like a hemibagrus wyckii. They have beautiful blue eyes... _________________ Becky
