i currently have 2 tanks side by side, a 25 litre and an almost 40 litre tank. they both have separate lights heaters and filters. im considering eventually replacing both power filters with 1 pump and an air drawn filter in each tank so reducing a plug socket (i have many things in the room which require a plug ) i know i will need a spliter and a stop valve to stop the water backing up and have the filters running for a few weeks first before removing the power filters. just wondering. is this set up ok? to replace the power filters with 1 air pump that splits to 2 filters, 1 for each tank? |

I don't think you'd get enough filtration, plus there wouldn't be enough surface movement, thus reducing oxygen levels...unless you bought more air pumps but that would take up more sockets i used an air filter years ago in a hospital tank & i found it to be a bit useless really, but that might just have been down to the brand i'd bought
Surely the easiest solution would be to get rid of both tanks & buy one bigger tank, less sockets used then _________________ er....Mark

| i would if i could but i cant. dont have the room for a larger tank. plus 1 of the tanks only has a fighter in it as we lost 1 fighter in the other tank due to fin nipping. thats why i was thinking get a pump thats over powered for the tanks combined then extra air might generate that extra force, failing that i could drop an air stone from an extra splitter which would work for oxygen levels |

it seems like a bit of hassle to me, and you'd only gain one socket.
if you're already running an air pump for aeration you could lose that and adjust the filter outlets to disturb the water surface more?
or (sounds a bit silly, but would do the job!) you could have the lights on at different times, and plug the lights into the same socket alternately?
actually, thats given me another idea..... one longer light for both tanks? _________________ Juwel Rio240 W/Tetratec EX1200 & Rena Smart Heater.

How about a power strip? Pretty simple, more plugs, and much safer! _________________ Janet
