Common name:Giant red fin gourami, Red-tail gourami
Scientific name:Osphronemus laticlavius
Synonyms:(none)
Size:Up to 20" (50cm)
Origin:Southeast Asia
Tank setup:A very large tank (5x2x2'/153x61x61cm minimum for an adult), with minimal robust decor.
Compatibility:Can be territorial, combine with other large robust fish.
Temperature:22-28oC (72-82oF)
Water chemistry:Not critical: soft to medium hard, pH 6.2-7.8
Feeding:Omnivorous, almost any foods accepted - pellet foods ideal as a staple, include some green foods. May eat small fish.
Sexing:Unknown
Breeding:Unknown - likely to be similar to the Giant gourami (O. goramy)
Comments: This species was described relatively recently, in the 1990's, and has previously been rare in the aquarium trade.
