| Common name: | Fang's Puffer, Brown puffer |
| Scientific name: | Tetraodon cochinchinensis |
| Synonyms: | T. fangi, T. leiurus brevirostris, T. ocellaris (Invalid) |
| Size: | Approx. 3" (7cm). |
| Origin: | Asia: Thailand, Vietnam |
| Tank setup: | A species setup - provide rock or bogwood caves, and plants to break up the line of sight if more than
one specimen is kept. To keep several together would necessitate a large tank with lots of decor to break the tank up into
territories centred around a suitable cave - even then serious bite wounds could occur. |
| Compatibility: | An antisocial puffer, which is likely to bite other fishes, including their own kind. |
| Temperature: | 24-26oC (75-78oF) |
| Water chemistry: | Freshwater species: pH around neutral, soft to medium hard. |
| Feeding: | Live and frozen meaty foods: bloodworm, pieces of cockle, mussel and prawn, snails. |
| Sexing: | No obvious differences. |
| Breeding: | Has been bred in captivity. The eggs are guarded by the male, but no care of the fry occurs. |
| Comments: |
This puffer is relatively inactive, but very territorial towards its own species.
