| Water chemistry: | Not critical, soft to quite hard and around neutral pH (pH 6.2-7.8). |
| Feeding: | Use flake and granular foods as a staple, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as Daphnia and Brine Shrimp. |
| Sexing: | Males slimmer and more colourful, mature females are likely to have a heavier body shape. |
| Breeding: | An egg scatterer, use fine-leaved plants or spawning mops. Eggs hatch in 2-3 days. Fry will require micro-foods such as infusoria initially. |

A very popular fish for unheated tanks, the White Cloud Mountain Minnow will thrive at a comfortable room temperature. A similar species, Tanichthys micagemmae, is sometimes available.
