Tanganyika Cichlids

Lake Tanganyika is found in East Africa’s Rift Valley and contains very hard, alkaline water with a high pH value.

Cichlids are the dominant fish in Tanganyika, and they are very diverse - from small “shell-dwelling” cichlids to mid-water shoaling fish like the Cyprichromis, to the large Frontosa.

Tanganyikan cichlids include many species of Lamprologus and Neolamprologus, the unusual Altolamprologus, the slender Julidochromis, large Frontosa and the boisterous Tropheus.
